The basic rules are Always allowed site are check first followed by domain names that contain banned words and if this misses anything banned sites are used
It is not our intention to block pornographic sites or to provide any form of censorship. If you feel that are rules are too strict in the default list feel free to .
Always Allowed Sites
Sites listed here are always allowed through assuming the user has permissions You will see unusual sites listed hear because of some very harsh rules provided in the other blocking rules. For example you will find radioshack.* in this table because the current default is to block sites that have shack in the domain name since by our observations virtually all sites with the phrase shack in the domain name are very annoying.
Banned Domain Words
This is the first set of rules that are used to decide if a site is annoying or not. If the domain name contains a word from this site it will automatically be blocked from all browsers. The words in this list were chosen carefully based on what has been observed be common domain name naming behavior. For example, virtually every site that has the word shack in it is a terribly annoying multi-level marketing porn site. However radioshack has shack in it's name so radioshack which is not all together annoying is allowed to pass via the always allowed rules.
Blocked Sites
Any site listed in here will automatically be blocked no if ands or buts. If you wish to generalize sites to block you can use the (*) wildcard. For example the entry ads.*.* would block ads.somesite.com or ads.somewhere.net etc.
As well, if you wish to block well known paths for example /block_path/ just put it here.
For example many web sites have resources which are really advertisements as some_domain.com/ads/some_ad.gif. These are very easy to block and save large amounts of bandwidth.
