If you have no web camera installed this
menu option will be disabled. If there is a web camera, you must select it
in order to enable it. Once the camera is enabled it will take a snap
shot with the frequency indicated in the "Basic Settings" dialog box.
As well, it will maintain a library of snap shots equal to the "cycle rate"
(the default is 1). The images are stored in the "WebCam" subfolder.
The default compression should be adequate however
if you are using a modem and the remote browser is pulling an image every
few seconds, you may wish to increase the compression in order to conserve
bandwidth.
The cycle rate is for the webmaster that is able to write their
own web pages and wishes to have several pictures on the same page.
SPECIAL NOTE:
Although it will be indicated in the
default view screen of the web server how many connections are active, since
the web server uses the well known HTTP protocol there is NO PRIVACY
with the camera unless you enable protection.
Just because you are sharing with a friend does not mean no
one else is watching! If other people know your IP address (indicated in the
web server title bar) they may also watch. As well, there is a remote
possibility somebody randomly reaches your address. It is after all, just a
number! If you feel uncomfortable at all, never enable it. Some people enjoy
the thrill and others do not.
Also, simply because the camera output window is
not visible does not mean it is not taking snap shots. To save space on the
desktop, when the output window is minimized it is also hidden (also true of
the web server window itself). If the camera is enabled, it IS taking
snap shots!
